Sustainable development
At move2Gozo, we have a firm and clear vision for Gozo’s long-term development. We fully support the Għal Għawdex Coalition and its comprehensive 8-point plan announced on 5th May 2023, aiming for sustainable, eco-sensitive growth that respects both environmental and socio-economic priorities.
We strongly oppose the trend of large-scale, unsustainable development projects, particularly those threatening the integrity of Outside Development Zones (ODZ) and our shared Cultural heritage.
Gozo deserves thoughtful development that enriches its environment, enhances community life, and strengthens its economy.

We advocate for preserving the distinct character of Gozo’s villages, revitalizing historic town centers, restoring abandoned buildings, and ensuring new developments are sustainable, environmentally friendly, and aesthetically harmonious.
We call upon architects and developers to embrace this responsibility and help create an island that future generations can proudly inherit.

Gozo’s Unique Identity
Gozo is uniquely charming and attracts residents and visitors from around the globe, many choosing to make it their permanent home. It remains a cherished “island of villages” where countryside and traditional architecture dominate the landscape, starkly contrasting the rapid urbanization seen in Malta.

The island has been fortunate to avoid widespread over-development, ribbon development, and the loss of access to natural spaces. This positive outcome is largely due to enlightened policies such as:
- Strategic Plan for the Environment Development (SPED) (2015)
- eco-Gozo Action Plan (2010-2012)
- Gozo and Comino Local Plan (2006)
We commend the eco-Gozo vision aimed at transforming Gozo into an eco-friendly island that preserves its environment, resources, culture, and identity while fostering sustainable economic and social growth. The Gozo Regional Development Authority’s (GRDA) recent survey underscores widespread community support for this vision.
Our Commitment
move2Gozo actively supports and sponsors various local NGOs and initiatives dedicated to Gozo’s environmental and social well-being, including Wirt Għawdex, Din l-Art Ħelwa Għawdex, Għal Għawdex Coalition, Ghawdix, and the Friends of the Sick and Elderly in Gozo (FSEG).
We will continuously endorse projects and initiatives that enhance Gozo’s quality of life, prioritize sustainable design and construction, support environmental restoration, and positively contribute to local communities.
Conversely, move2Gozo firmly opposes any developments or actions that compromise our collective vision. We urge authorities to uphold and rigorously enforce existing environmental and planning policies to protect Gozo’s residents and preserve our cherished island.
